Bauma China reports 80,000 visitors, a joyous ceremony

June 21 12:33 2021

Around 80,000 visitors attended last month’s Buama China exhibition in Shanghai. It was a reduction of 62% from the 212,500 in 2018, but organiser Messe München said it was a positive outcome given the pandemic.

The show was severely impacted by Covid-19, which prevented travellers from outside of China from attending and also curtailed domestic visitors. A small outbreak in Shanghai in the days before the show would also have been a deterrant.

More than 2,850 exhibitors attended Bauma China 2020.

However, Terex said the show “exceeded our expectations” and Volvo CE said the event was one that OEMs “do not want to miss”.

Despite the reduced scale, it was still the largest construction show staged since the onset of the pandemic. It attracted 2,867 exhibitors, a 15% reduction on 2018.

Stefan Rummel, Managing Director of Messe München GmbH, said he was satisfied with the result; “The year 2020 was marked by special challenges. But the construction machinery industry and its economy continue to grow while the effects of the epidemic are being warded off…Hand-in-hand with our partners we therefore made everything possible and provided the industry with a platform even in times of crisis.”

Xu Jia, Chief Executive Officer – Greater China at Messe Muenchen Shanghai, thanked visitors and exhibitors; “The success of Bauma China owes to the great support from our partners, exhibitors and all participants. I am very proud to have such a strong Bauma China team—together we overcame any difficulties!”

In addition to China’s major suppliers, the show attracted international exhibitors such as Caterpillar, Volvo, Bauer and Terex.

Chen Ting, Vice President of Brand Marketing and Communications of Volvo Construction Equipment Region Asia, said; ”With its professional and careful organization, rich and diverse exhibit range, and digital communication network, Bauma China has become an important promotional opportunity that construction machinery companies do not want to miss.”

Bin Qi, Regional Director-Eastern, Northern & Western China of Terex (Changzhou) Machinery Co., Ltd. Shanghai Branch, USA, added: “In this special time, the successful opening of Bauma China has brought confidence to the industry, manufacturers, investors, and all those who are concerned about the construction machinery industry. The results exceed our expectations, and the visitors were highly professional.”

The next Bauma China will take place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from November 22 to 25, 2022.
