REELECTIONIST Senator JV Ejercito on Thursday batted for the establishment of a “specialty hospital” in every region like the ones located in Metro Manila.
Ejercito, chairman of the Senate health committee, said he would file a bill, if reelected, for the construction and operation of regional “specialty hospitals” like the Philippine Heart Center, Lung Center of the Philippines, and National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), which are all located in Metro Manila.
“It is not just my dream to have hospitals in every community here in the country. I also want to have a specialty hospital in every region like the PHC, Lung Center and NKTI which can only be found here in Metro Manila,” he said in a statement.
Ejercito, principal sponsor of the Universal Health Care (UHC) law, said these regional “specialty hospitals” that should be built would spare patients and their families of huge expenses and relieve them as well of inconveniences involved in traveling from the provinces where they live to seek medication or check-ups in these Manila-based hospitals.
“They don’t have to travel to Manila to seek medical attention at the PHC, Lung Center or NKTI. If every region have these institutions, many will benefit from it,” Ejercito said.
“Health is one of my priority because I truly believe that a country is productive if its citizens are healthy,” he said.
“Should I win another term in the Senate, I assure everyone that I will continue to pursue health-related laws because I want all of us to be healthy,” the senator said.
Aside from the UHC, Ejercito is also known for pushing for other laws related to health including the Mental Health Act, Philippine HIV/AIDS Policy Act, and National Integrated Cancer Control Act.
